Super Busy Month!

First, two new system implementations were approved by the Customer. Then, little that I realised that there was another two more in the RFI and design stage.

The first two implementations, one is for the migration of SharePoint system from one DC to another, virtualisation, then the new systems are to run Windows Server 2016 and SharePoint 2016. We hit an issue with one of the UAT server, a MS SQL DB VM, not sure what happened, when the Veritas Netbackup Enterprise Client's image was backing up the DB via the ESXi, it failed after running a few minutes.  The team tried to fix the issue, but to no solution. In the end, we had to reinstall the whole server.

The other implementation has something to do with Big Data Analytics, the system is to process huge TB chunks of data. Software from Microstrategy, Cloudera and Talend were used. At this time, it was still being setup. Due to the inexperience of the team, external consultants have to be brought in.

Coming soon, the other two still in the discussion stage, an upgrade of the existing system and the other is for the enhancement of the existing system as well. These new implementations would keep us busy for the next 4-6 months.

Rush and Rush and Rush

This month is about rushing, as it is coming to the end of FY for most companies, they are rushing to spend off their budgets. Big ticket items like servers, storage and appliances are the most popular, and easiest to use up the money. What is in it for us?

Yes, we make more money...for the company, but we will work like mad to get the hardware in, mount and install. Usually by this time, we would have spent many overtime and weekends trying to bring the machines up. It has always been like that, never change, sometimes you are either immune or just want to cry over it. It was too much stress.

What's up in February 2019?

It's now in the month of February, and soon, we will be in March! Two months just come and go so fast, didn't quite realized it until today, when I looked at the calendar. Nothing much has changed in the last 2 months, but somehow the stock market is ramping up a bit, so, maybe it's a good time to buy some stocks. I think CyberSecurity stocks are still good and going strong, perhaps can consider to load up some. The US-NK summit in Vietnam is coming soon, let's hope something good can come out from it.

12 days to 2019

How times flies, really looking forward to Christmas and new year holidays. Beginning this Friday, we are starting to countdown, lots of gatherings, food and drinks! So much hard work for the past 1 year, it's time to relax and cool down. Out with the unhappiness and bad things that happened, wish for the best in the coming new year.

Happy holiday, everyone! For more than 12 years of blogging, I'm still going strong, never thought I will continue to have this persistent, all the highs and lows, colleagues and friends come and go, but that didn't stop me from writing on this blog site. All my frustrations and complaints, ha ha!

Why should I still put money in the Stock Market?

This has been asked many, many times in the last few months. With the bull still running strong, there's an optimism in people that the market will still do well in the next 1 to 2 years, as long as Mr Trump is still the POTUS. Tech Stocks' prices are going highs and lows, there's no indication that the companies behind them are not doing well. With the trade war still going on, no particular stock is a definite winner, what we know is that stock price will go high if the company's earnings surge, and drop south when it isn't doing well. As I said before, Cyber Security and software cloud companies are doing quite well, but we can't say for sure the direction their stocks will go in the next 6 months time. Let's wait and see.

Trade War Brewing

Unless you have been living in a hole or high up in the mountains, you would have heard about the US-China trade war. Not only has it affected the world trades, but it caused ripples effects in the stocks markets, worldwide. Stocks prices have gone south or what pro traders called it, bearish. More significantly, Chinese stocks listed in the US stock markets suffered millions, if not billions of losses. Stocks such as BABA, JD and IQ were hit pretty badly as well. So much so that, there were news saying the big investors were running away from them, selloff. Seems this trade war no where near the end of the tunnel, no light yet. Perhaps, if you are holding some of these stocks, and had bought it at a low, low price, you may want to continue holding on to them, or sell them. Good luck trading!

How's the Stock Market Today?

Well, if you ask me, I would think it's good. Tech Stocks are going up, while others are coming down. Apple is to announce some new handphones, most probable till it's launch, it's stock will go up, till the product release, then you know what happen. IT software and security companies are still the best bet, esp. FEYE, AKAM, ORCL, AMD, SYMC, etc. some of their business fundamentals are pretty strong, look for their product long term road maps, so if you hold them for long, likely to make more money from their stocks. Companies like KO and PEP are more suitable for short term holding, these days their stock prices tend to swing, but if you notice when they go down, it's time to buy, and when they go up again, sell. So if you want to make a quick buck, go for these two stocks. I'm continuing to hunt for more value stocks, perhaps will share them at a later time. Cya...

Take One Step at A Time

The last 2 weeks saw a huge drop in share prices for some of the notable tech companies, e.g. FB, JD, IQ. I had lost money that I had earned 2 months before that. Then, what happened next was, the stocks went up again. I made a huge mistake, that is not to invest in any stocks when the companies' earning date is near. Yes, lesson learned. I was too greedy, and in the end, I paid the price! So, how will the market be in the next 2 months? I guess tech companies stocks will still move up, be careful of eCommerce companies' stocks, they tend to be very volatile, especially their options. I will just take one step at a time, so if I'm going to buy stocks, analysis one first, if the fundamentals are good, go in and look at another one next.

Single Tasking or Multi-tasking

Most people, if given one task they will do it very well. There are some, who thought that they are so good at doing a single task for months and years, they tend to boast about it. They will start to look for ways to criticize others of not doing their job well.
