Two weeks of hectic work

Two weeks ago, our DBA did an upgrade of the Production Database from Oracle v9.1.0.4 to v9.2.0.8, things went haywire after that. The 1st night of the batch cycle run no end till 24hrs later.

Since then, the customer had been complaining...me, being the SPOC was lectured and ticked of by them, as well as my boss and boss' boss. It was a pretty bad situation. Day and night, our guys had to rotate to troubleshoot the issue during the night batch, whatever tuning that can be done. At one point, they even thought of rolling back the patch, but was decided not to, who knows, by rolling back, there may even be more surprises!

Well, after 2 weeks of facts finding and tuning, Oracle came back and told our team that there's this '_unnested_subquery' setting that should be set in the init.ora file, then bounce the Database, it should be fine. Hmm...ever since then, the system performance seems to be back to normal, but, we still have to monitor.

I haven't got much sleep for the past weeks, and I had to work these weekends to prepare for an audit on Monday, so tiring man, I need more rest...

It's not fair!

My gal was so unhappy about her appraisal grade that she wrote me an email to complain. I told her the grade was moderated by HR, and she went on the compare with her friends, obviously, that even made matters worst.

I have long given up on the coy's appraisal system, I have complained to boss about it, but, nothing changed. What I don't like about the system is that, at least, at my level, I was not told how the moderation works, this means that whatever grade we give to our staff, it doesn't count until HR does the moderation. So far, I have not seen them moderate up, mostly, down.

I have talk to my gal (and my boss too), she sounds and looks ok now, but, I know she still thinks she deserves better grade, I believe it too!
